I Am Learning to Draw Sunflowers

We planted sunflower seeds. They are beginning to grow. We drew a sunflower to show what we hope will grow on our plants.

I Am Learning About Punctuation

Today we read the story 'Billy and the Basketball'. The we had to put the sentence in the right order and put in the right punctuation.

"I read the story. Its was tricky to put the words in the right place."

I Am Learning To Add Details To My Writing

I am learning to add details to my writing.  

I can write when something happened.

"I can write about my family.  I can read my story to my teacher."

Blob Bugs

We used paint to paint three blobs, then we squashed our paper in half. When it was dry we added legs, wings, antennae and eyes.

Our Big Book Activity - The Snake Cake

We have been reading the big book 'The Snake Cake' and decided that we would make a snake cake  too.  We spread pink icing on the biscuits and stuck them together so they looked liked a snake.  

Then we put some blue icing on the top and M & M's too.  

Then we ate it.  It was delicious!

I Am Learning to Tell The Time

We have made clocks at school. We are learning to tell o'clock and half past times using our clocks. It is fun.

"My clock says 5 o'clock. It is easy to tell o'clocks, next I will learn half past times".

My Art Exhibition Masterpiece

This term we painted pictures for the 

Elm Park School Art Exhibition 2015.

The focus of our artwork was experimenting with different painting techniques, blending and shading colours together and creating repeating patterns.

To create our 'flower masterpiece' we practised mixing different shades of the same colour to create the wavy lines.  Then we used black vivid to create a repeating pattern.  We had fun putting our pictures together to create a whole flower - this was the best part!

I Am Learning About Root Words.

I can find a root word and I can make more words using different endings - s, ing, ed.

We wrote about about a Kapa Haka Performance that we watched in the auditorium during Māori Language Week.  First we wrote 2 sentences and then the next day we added some more writing to make our stories more interesting.

"I like writing about dinosaurs.  I like writing about cars.  I can write my own sentence."

100 Days Smarter!

On the 23rd July 2015 Room 5 celebrated 100 days of school.  

We had a small class celebration, made crowns and wrote about our favourite things to do at school.

We are now 100 days smarter!!!
